Jacqui Dowling lives and works in Devon - she trained as a textile artist and now creates an extensive range of hand and machine stitched jewellery, hangings, handbags and stationery.Colourways are endless in most designs. Each piece is entirely unique - below is a small sample of designs available. Many of the fabrics used are handcrafted using fibrefilm which she handpaints using various mediums such as silk and acrylic paint, building up the colours to the desired depth. The 'fabric' is then stitched all over to create the desired effect, and then is heated until this unique 'rich antique' effect is created. The resulting effect is dependent on the reaction to the heat with the paints and fabric, ensuring that each piece is totally unique. Only when the fabric has been created can the cutting, forming and decoration of the object begin. Many of her designs are beaded which she handstitches onto the fabric giving a rich luscious look. The various fixings can then be attached. Jacqui does not mass produce her work, it is all hand crafted and very time-consuming to make. She loves to work to commissions for that special item. |
